Google Donates Over MYR460,000 To Support The Flood Relief Efforts In Malaysia

Google has set in motion crisis response efforts using technology, collaboration, and donation drives to help communities affected by the floods in Malaysia. As part of its crisis response efforts, Google has activated its SOS alerts to help impacted communities and their loved ones gain access to trusted safety information across Search and Maps.

Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, is also providing monetary support to aid those affected by the crisis in two ways:

  • A MYR 420,800 grant will be made to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), an intermediary organization that specializes in distributing donations to nonprofits that work to support relief and recovery efforts. The funds will be used by CDP to provide subgrants to local organizations on the ground helping affected communities recover and rebuild from the aftermath of the floods.
  • An internal employee donation campaign has been launched to encourage Google employees to donate towards Mercy Malaysia and have their donations matched by Google. So far, Googlers have already contributed over MYR 40,000 in donations and company matches.

“Our hearts go out to those impacted by the floods. It has been incredibly heartwarming to witness Malaysians coming together to help each other and we are equally committed to doing our part for Malaysia through our technology, supporting local nonprofits that are at the front lines of recovery efforts and by matching employee donations, ” said Marc Woo, Managing Director for Google Malaysia.
