Being Customer-Centric In Consumer Tech Market, The Key Factor How Gorry Holdings Grow During The Pandemic

An Indonesian consumer and health-tech company, Gorry Holdings, have achieved significant growth throughout 2020. Even though there was mild correction in the beginning of the pandemic, the company, which was established in 2014, has managed to book an encouraging growth from its various business lines, such as the healthy food delivery segment served under Gorry Gourmet brand and GorryWell mobile apps that has soaring number of paid users who upgrade their accounts to access the unlimited personal health journal features and consultation with the wellness coach.

William Susilo

“Our business is growing despite some external factors that have made most of the consumer markets slow down this year. People have been more aware of the importance of living healthier, such as by consuming nutritious food and getting advice from wellness coaches who can provide personal health feedback and lifestyle guidance,” said William Susilo, Co-Founder & Chairman of Gorry Holdings in Jakarta (28/10).

According to him, being consumer-centric is pivotal for the company to survive the outbreak and respond well to the dramatic changes in the societies. Personalized and data-driven wellness programs have become one of Gorry Holdings’ core advantages in the fast-growing tech sector.

“Big health data and machine learning are our competitive advantages to address what the consumers need. Everyone has different health goals. For instance, pregnant women’s needs are indeed different from diabetes patients’, the needs of millennials who would like to achieve ideal body weight must be different from the needs of stroke/ cardiac-disease patients. What is healthy for someone might not fit well for someone else. Instead it is subject to our health goals and health biometrics. Our service is to provide practical lifestyle solutions in one integrated mobile app named GorryWell so that the users can get personalized guidance while also easily buying healthy food, groceries and other wellness items,” he added.

GorryWell’s number of users has grown by more than 2 times in 2020 compared to last year. People are getting more health conscious these days. “The apps makes it easier for us to  improve the way we eat, exercise or buy our daily needs. We also provide personalized content in the form of a meal plan calendar for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks based on the goal and health biometric of each user.”

Henry Budiman

Co-founder and CEO of Gorry Holdings, Herry Budiman, mentioned that besides providing lifestyle guidance and monitoring tools, GorryWell apps has certified nutritionists or wellness coaches who can be contacted through the chat feature. The users also can populate the food journal by capturing the photos of the food that they ate, then the coach will provide feedback on whether the food is suitable for them based on the health goal and conditions of each respective user.

“Each wellness data captured in the apps will be translated to a wellness score of 1 to 5, the higher means the less-health-risky. Higher score will affect the user’s medal status, which is associated with specific discount perks that the user can use to buy Gorry Gourmet healthy food subscription and many other items in GorryMart. In GorryWell apps the users can buy not only healthy foods, but also groceries and daily needs, such as vegetables, fruit, meat, herbs, multivitamins, and other essential items. With the wellness medal, discount gimmicks, and shopping features, we in substance give tangible rewards for our users who live a healthier lifestyle,” he said.

In the future, Gorry Holdings will invest more in city expansions while building stronger technology capabilities in big health data, machine learning and eventually artificial intelligence as an effort to respond to market demands that require more extensive personalization.

“We are preparing the infrastructure to achieve the goal of becoming a scalable-personalized consumer market player. Moreover, we are the official partner of Indonesia’s Ministry of Health and global insurance companies. The right partners and the advanced technology capabilities are what it takes to be the market winner.”

Based on the McKinsey Global Institute’s report “Prioritizing Health: A Prescription for Prosperity” released in July 2020, it is stated that there are 10 technology innovations which will have material health impacts by 2040, and one of those is artificial intelligence (AI). An AI-based health technology can reduce disease potentials by 6 – 10 percent by 2040.

According to Jaana Remes, the researcher at the institute, hiring healthy employees can be economically beneficial. “USD 1 for employee health investment can result in USD 2 – 4 returns,” Remes said.

The report also highlights that during the pandemic the use of telemedicine and video consultation have been more common. “We have seen the software and application that enable real-time data collection and are linked to an analytical model that can be visualized through a dashboard. This technology is adopted quickly during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Remes closed the conversation.
